Microblading vs. Nano Brows

There is no question that if you’re spending more than five minutes filling in your brows before you present yourself to the world then you may be interested in this article.  Gone are the days when we have to stress about the shape of our eyebrows or if we are fashionable with our arches.  Today’s semi-permanent make-up procedures take all that stress away and the modern techniques and pigment formulations allow for these procedures to age more beautifully than those of long ago.

If you’ve been thinking about getting your brows done, you’ve probably heard of microblading.  Tiny cuts are made into a pattern in the brow line that mimic your actual growth pattern (if the artist is well trained) and are supposed to heal to look like real hair.  When done correctly and on the right skin type, this procedure produces beautiful results that most people can’t pick out at all.  So, why all the horror stories?  It’s simple. Microblading is only right for dry skin, which is about 30% of the population.  If you’re not someone with dry skin and you’ve had this done, the best thing that could have happened to you is that the oils from your skin pushed the ink out within four to six weeks.  Unfortunately, overconfident technicians try this procedure on other skin types and the results vary from flat, murky lines to scaring from overworking the skin in an attempt to get the ink to stay.  The only way to cover these accidents is with a total powder brow in a slightly darker color than what is there or complete removal.

Introducing the Nano Brow.  Nano Brows are perfect for all skin types because it is done with our permanent make-up machine and a single needle.  A nano brow artist works with a machine that has very low vibration and is able to draw hair strokes in mirroring patterns on both of your brows to create the illusion of more fullness.  The pigment selected matches your current hair color so there is no difference between the strokes and the real brow hair.  Since there are no cuts, but rather very fine lines created, the healing process is much less traumatic than with microblading.  Most people can go about their regular business right after!  If you are someone that doesn’t have a lot of brow hair, then a combination of shading and strokes are used to create the effect of fullness.  The pigment fades very slowly and requires a touch up every 12-18 months to keep them fresh.

Now, your next question may be “Why do people even offer microblading in nano brows are an option?”  The answer is because nano brows are relatively new.  Low vibration machines have only recently been available for an artist to make such fine strokes.  Then an artist would need to purchase such machine (and they are costly) and then commit to hours of practicing single strokes on a daily basis until they can do several sets with no squiggly lines.  They also need to be able to mirror the strokes free hand, which is another level of complication.  By this time next year, there will, no doubt, be double the nano brow artists available.
