There are times when we don’t want to think about our beauty regimens and we want the people we pay to just do the work but did you know that when it comes to your eyelash extensions, you play a very crucial role in both the results and the retention? That’s right, a lot of it is up to you and taking the time to properly prepare for your appointment is a big factor.
Many artists can and will work around all these things but the more you know, the better, so here are my top seven steps that should be checked off your list before hitting the lash bed.
1.) Stop using Latisse® one month before you get your first set. Using Latisse® with lash extensions is literally throwing your money out the window. Latisse® is made with bimatoprost and keeps the lashes from shedding their normal cycle but as soon as you stop using it, the lashes will return to their normal shedding cycle. It is okay to use growth serums with extensions, like Lash Scandal® where the active ingredients stimulate more hair growth naturally and nourish the lashes. However, understand there is a difference and you will get better results over a long period of time with the more natural, non-medicated brands.
2.) Come to your appointment on time so that your artist can work without rushing. Hurrying a service like lash extensions will only short you because a lash technician will only be able to apply so many lashes in a given amount of time. If a tech is rushed, it could result in improper bonding so the lash extensions won’t have good retention, or you could get a less fluffy lash line.
3.) Come to your appointment with clean lashes. If you absolutely must wear eye make-up on the day of your appointment, try and wash your eyes thoroughly before your appointment. Even with foaming lash baths that we can provide in the service, it is difficult for the technicians to completely clean the eyes of certain mascaras and strip lash glue. Plus, it cuts into your lashing time.
4.) Restrain from drinking caffeine for the three hours leading up to your appointment. Not only does caffeine make your eyes fluttery and difficult to work with but it also makes you fidgety. It’s wise to remember that your lash artist is working with very sharp tools pointed directly at your eyes. Stillness and calmness are essential for great results.
5.) If you have blonde lashes, consider a lash tint before getting a full set. If you have a big event and want to look your very best, tinting the lashes before a full set of lashes will enhance that coveted lash line and make it easier for the artist to see your lashes.
6.) Consider washing your hair before your appointment and giving yourself at least twelve hours where you won’t be sweating or showering. Though we use a special bonding serum which helps cure the glue immediately, we recommend this time to allow the lashes to sit. Also, try not to pull or stretch the skin around your eyes for the first 24 hours.
7.) Plan ahead and make sure you have a foaming lash bath that you can clean your lashes with. Either buy one from your technician or order one online but make sure you wash each night with a gentle foaming cleanser.
While these are certainly not the only things that can help make your lash appointments better, they are definitely the most important. So, if your not getting the retention your looking for with your lash extensions, try these things next time before you go and see if there is a difference. Happy Lashing!
